This Apple Fritter Cobbler is a delightful fusion of two classic desserts - the apple fritter and the fruit cobbler.

This Apple Fritter Cobbler reminds me of my grandmother’s apple cobbler. She had a Granny Smith apple tree in her yard and from that tree she made delicious apple jelly, fried apple pies and yummy fruit cobblers. Lots of happy memories from one tree.

Apple Fritter Cobbler makes a delicious coffee cake kind of dish too. I’m thinking of Christmas morning brunch!! Yum!

Of course, It's delicious on its own, but even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Now, let's roll up our sleeves and get to the recipe. This Apple Fritter Cobbler recipe is simple, yet it yields a dessert that's sure to impress your family and friends. So, preheat your oven, gather your ingredients, and let's get baking!

Over medium heat, bring the apple mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and let simmer for about 5 minutes. Note: the apples should be just fork tender but still firm. They will be cooking more in the oven so you don’t want to overcook them.

Add vanilla. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish. Note: You can use an iron skillet for a one dish dessert. Just add the fritter topping and bake.

In another bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk just until a dough.

Drop spoonfuls of the dough evenly over the apple mixture.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbling.

While the cobbler is baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Once the cobbler is done, remove it from the oven and immediately drizzle the glaze over the top.

Allow the cobbler to cool for a few minutes before serving. It's delicious on its own, but even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream!

Recipe notes

Do ahead/Freeze Tips: The apple filling can be made up several days ahead and stored in the refrigerator. If making ahead I would suggest adding a couple of tablespoons of fresh lemon to to the apples to keep them from turning brown. The cooked cobbler can be frozen as well. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and heat in the microwave to serve.
